Recent reports about Noora Shalash being the Director of Government Affairs for CAIR-Kentucky are inaccurate and require clarification.

The Facts

  1. Noora Shalash is a former volunteer of CAIR-Kentucky, not a current director.
  2. CAIR National has officially stated that Shalash has not been associated with their organization for over five years.
  3. The incident involving Shalash occurred on February 7, 2025, in a Midtown Manhattan building, where she allegedly made antisemitic remarks and threats.

Misinformation Spread

The mischaracterization of Noora Shalash as a current CAIR-Kentucky official spread rapidly on social media platforms. A viral video posted on X (formerly Twitter) incorrectly identified her as the Director of Government Affairs for CAIR-Kentucky. This misinformation was then amplified across various platforms, including Instagram 4 7.

CAIR’s Response to Noora Shalash Anti-Semitic Rants

CAIR National quickly addressed the situation:

  1. They condemned the antisemitic comments attributed to Shalash in the video.
  2. The organization emphasized that Shalash has had no affiliation with CAIR for five years and currently holds no role within the civil rights group.
  3. CAIR reiterated its stance against all forms of hate, including antisemitism and anti-Palestinian racism.

In a statement, CAIR said:

“We strongly condemn this blatant disinformation that anti-Palestinian racists and anti-Muslim bigots have spread online in an attempt to link our civil rights group to this video of a woman making hateful remarks.

“If the woman recorded in the video is the same person who once worked for CAIR-Kentucky, the truth is that she has not worked with our CAIR-Kentucky chapter in five years. She has no other role at our civil rights group. We condemn and reject the antisemitic comments in the video, as well as the unhinged rants about Daesh.

“These hateful comments obviously do not represent CAIR, which has vocally condemned both antisemitism and ISIS. In fact, CAIR spoke condemned ISIS’ violence so often that the group put CAIR’s executive director on an apparent hit list.”

Importance of Fact-Checking

This incident highlights the critical need for fact-checking before sharing information, especially in today’s fast-paced social media environment. Misinformation can spread rapidly, potentially damaging reputations and fueling unnecessary conflicts.

While the alleged actions of Noora Shalash are deeply concerning, it’s crucial to accurately represent her current status as a former, not current, CAIR employee. This distinction is important for maintaining the integrity of public discourse and ensuring that organizations are not unfairly implicated in the actions of individuals no longer associated with them.

Other points to consider:

  1. The woman’s name is Noora Shalash, not Noora Shalas.
  2. Noora Shalash is identified as the Director of Government Affairs for CAIR-Kentucky (Council on American-Islamic Relations). She was never the “Director of Government Affairs for CAIR-Kentucky”.
  3. The incident reportedly took place in a Midtown Manhattan building, not just generally in New York City.
  4. In the video, Shalash allegedly chased, assaulted, and threatened Jewish individuals while yelling anti-Semitic comments.
  5. She reportedly said, “I demand Jihad, I want ISIS to kill all of you”.

It’s important to note that the authenticity of the video has not been independently verified by reputable news sources.

CAIR Kentucky has not issued a statement regarding the incident as of the time of these reports.
