Sick and Wounded Palestinians, Including Young Boy, Leave Gaza

Among the 50 sick or wounded Palestinians permitted to leave Gaza Saturday as part of a ceasefire deal was Al-Mu’tasim Billah Samour, a young boy with a life-threatening immune disorder.

But the release came at a cost, as the mother had to leave four of her other children behind to ensure Mu’tasim’s safe transfer to Egypt.

“I left behind four children, and they are pieces of my heart. Their father was martyred, and now I have left them behind,” she said. “My heart is torn apart.”

Another mother, Fadi Issa Abu Qutta, whose 30-year-old son has been suffering from shrapnel wounds since January 15, 2024, pleaded for his evacuation, adding that she and her son have nothing to do with any political group.

“The World Health Organization has been contacting me since July 30, and to this day they keep telling me his evacuation request was denied,” she told CNN. “This is injustice.”
