The stench of diesel in the air. Asima Naqvi is a lone woman standing on the side of a noisy highway. She wears a stiff grey police uniform, and has a gun at her hip and rose perfume in her purse.

She is ticketing drivers for traffic violations. The perfume reminds her of who she is — one of Pakistan’s few female police officers in a man’s world. She’s doing more than enforcing the law. She’s breaking norms.
