History Lesson: If ISIS is not Islam, then what is it?

CHARLOTTE, NC, August 8, 2016 – Barack Obama and his loyal cronies continue to insist that “ISIS is not Islam.” Yet these politically correct statements ignore the obvious. Perhaps a little history lesson is in order. Thanks to Raymond Ibrahim, a noted expert on Islam, a brief journey into the past might entice politically correct “authorities”…

  1. Response to Bob Taylor of Communities Digital News:

ALLEGATION 1: History Lesson: If ISIS is not Islam, then what is it?

RESPONSE: The Arabic term “Islam” itself is usually translated as “submission“; a peaceful submission of desires to the will of God. It comes from the term “aslama”, which means “to surrender” or “resign oneself”.

The Arabic word salaam (سلام) (“Peace”) has the same root as the word Islam. One Islamic interpretation is that individual personal peace is attained by completely submitting to God.

As in other Abrahamic religions (Christianity, Judaism, etc.), peace is a basic concept in Islamic thought.

The greeting “Salaam alaykum”, which Muslims are encouraged to do (Chapter 4:86) and also stated at end of each of the five daily prayers (before sunrise, after mid-day, afternoon, after sunset and at night) has the literal meaning “Peace be upon you”. Muhammad is reported to have said once: “Not one of you believes until he loves for his brother what he loves for himself.” (Great Muslim scholars have said that the words ‘his brother’ mean any person irrespective of faith.) (From Wikipedia).

Islam, the world’s fastest-growing faith, will leap from 1.6 billion (in 2010) to 2.76 billion by 2050, according to the Pew study. At that time, Muslims will make up nearly one-third of the world’s total projected population of about 9 billion people. Christianity is expected to grow, too, but not at Islam’s explosive rate. The Pew study predicts Christians will increase from 2.17 billion to 2.92 billion, composing more than 31% of the world’s population. (Source: CNN – http://www.cnn.com/2015/04/02/living/pew-study-religion/)

Muslims are people who peacefully submit to God’s will (Allah is the Arabic word for God). Muslims practice their faith through diverse opinions of scholars, teachers and schools of thought as well as various traditions which can sometime be contrary to the teachings of the Islamic faith.

ALLEGATION 2: “In just a few decades (following the death of Muhammad) Muslims had permanently conquered what was then two-thirds of the Christian world. The heart of the Muslim world today-nations like Egypt, Syria, all of North Africa, Turkey and more-were, in the 7th century, the heart of Christendom.”

RESPONSE: At the commencement of the Muslim conquest of Egypt, Egypt was part of the Byzantine/Eastern Roman Empire, which had its capital at Constantinople. Egypt had been conquered just a decade before by the Persian Empire under Khosrau II (616 to 629 AD); however, Emperor Heraclius re-captured it after a series of campaigns against the Sassanid Persians, only to lose it to the Muslim Rashidun army ten years later. Before the Muslim conquest of Egypt had begun, the Byzantines had already lost the Levant and its Arab ally, the Ghassanid Kingdom, to the Muslims. All of this left the Byzantine Empire dangerously exposed and vulnerable.

Fact: “Less than three decades after the traditional date of Islam’s founding (622), three of the five original Christian centers (“sees”) founded by the apostles-in Alexandria, Antioch, and Jerusalem-were forever swallowed up by Islam,” writes Ibraham.

If swallowed up by Islam means people accepted Islam as their choice of faith as there is no compulsion in religion (2:256) then correct, even if this upsets you.

“He (Muhammad) taught those who gave ear to him that the one slaying the enemy – or being slain by the enemy – entered into paradise (e.g., Koran 9:111). And he said paradise was carnal and sensual – orgies of eating, drinking, and women. Also, there was a river of wine … and the woman were of another sort, and the duration of sex greatly prolonged and its pleasure long-enduring [e.g., 56: 7-40, 78:31, 55:70-77]. And all sorts of other nonsense.”

You’re absolutely correct in the last word used in the above paragraph, which clearly describes the entire rant: NONSENSE.

NOT a Fact: Again citing Ibrahim “Six hundred years later, in the 14th century, Byzantine emperor Paleologus II told a Muslim scholar: ‘Show me just what Muhammad brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman – such as the command to spread by the sword the faith he preached.'”

More like a continuous failing propaganda more than fact, but show me where the command to spread is “by the sword?” Chapter 2:256, Entire Surah Kafiroon or Chapter 109 or Chapter 18:(5) And say: “The truth is from your Lord.” Then whosoever wills, let him believe; and whosoever wills, let him disbelieve…”

Fact: “For roughly one millennium, Muslims waged unrelenting war on the West. And they did and continue doing so in the name of Islam.”

Interesting. Who’s (Christians) where (Iraq, Iran, Syrian, Yemen, Afghanistan, Pakistan…)in who’s (Muslims) land again? Interesting fact.

You’re now calling Obama a liar? Hmmm..pottle calling the kettle black?
