Grand Imam of Al Azhar Sheikh Ahmed Al-Tayeb welcomed today Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Islamic Affairs, Dawah, and Guidance Sheikh Dr. Abdullatif bin Abdulaziz Al Al-Sheikh, reported the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).
The meeting was held on the sidelines of the 35th International Conference of the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs held in Cairo from August 25 to 26 under the auspicious of the Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.
Dr. Al-Tayeb and Dr. Al-Sheikh discussed several topics of mutual concern especially starting the work of the joint committee between the Ministry and Al-Azhar to boost the Islamic cooperation and share experiences.
Saudi Role in Serving Muslims
The Grand Imam commended the Kingdom’s pioneering role in serving Muslims around the world and caring for the Two Holy Mosques under the leadership of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz and his Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

Dr. Al-Tayeb also praised the Saudi role in spreading the ideal values of tolerance and promoting the culture of dialogue and peaceful coexistence.
Furthermore, he highlighted the Kingdom’s distinctive participation in the conference of the Supreme Council in Egypt.
Saudi Women’s Empowerment
The Grand Imam also appreciated the Saudi women’s fundamental role in development and nation-building thanks to the efforts of King Salman and his Crown Prince.
Al-Azhar’s Unwavering Efforts
In the same context, the minister commended Al-Azhar’s prominent and significant role in spreading culture and knowledge, confronting extremism all over the world, and its long-standing role in graduating scholars and thinkers.
Dr. Al-Sheikh also reviewed the Kingdom’s unwavering efforts to empower women to secure leadership positions and represent the Kingdom in local and international forums.
Luxurious Gift
At the end of the meeting, Dr. Al-Sheikh presented a gift to the Grand Imam, a luxurious copy of the Noble Qur’an printed by the King Fahd Glorious Quran Printing Complex (KFGQPC).
Previous Meeting
Al-Sheikh met yesterday with the Egyptian Minister of Endowments, Dr. Osama Al-Azhari, marking the beginning of Al-Sheikh’s visit to Egypt to lead Kingdom’s delegation at the 35th International Conference of the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs.
During the meeting, both Al-Sheikh and Al-Azhari reviewed the Saudi-Egyptian cooperation to boost the Islamic work.
In the same context, Al-Azhari expressed his sincere appreciation to the Kingdom for its participation in the conference commending its pivotal and pioneering role in strengthening Islamic affairs all over the world.
The conference has highlighted the presence of over 100 participants, including ministers, muftis, and representatives of Islamic organizations from more than 60 countries.
