New York/Beirut (dpa) – The UN Security Council will hold a closed-door meeting on Syria Saturday after reports that an airstrike by forces taking part in the US-led coalition to fight Islamic State might have inadvertantly hit a Syrian government position, killing dozens.

The council announced late Saturday that it would meet at 7:30 pm (2330 GMT) to discuss Syria. The announcement came shortly after Russia called for the United States to provide a “full and detailed explanation” of the airstrike before the UN body.
