Baghdad (dpa) – Iraq’s powerful Shiite militias on Saturday announced that they had launched an offensive aimed at capturing the town of Tel Afar and other areas west of Mosul from Islamic State extremists.
Fierce battles were taking place as the militias advanced, sources in the pro-government militias said.
